PrestaShop 9.2.0 is available as a stable release. It is the second minor version on top of PrestaShop 9, and it brings changes store owners will actually notice: a native one-page checkout, custom fields on core data, and an AI assistant in the back-office. Below we go through what is new, what it means for your store and how to upgrade safely.
The most important new features
One Page Checkout
PrestaShop 9.2 ships a native One Page Checkout module. The whole checkout fits on a single page, and you choose in the back-office whether your store uses the one-page checkout or the classic four-step checkout. Guests can also order without creating an account.
For many stores this used to require a third-party checkout module. Having it in the core means one less module to maintain, but it also means your payment and carrier modules have to work in the new flow. Test that before you switch.
Extra Properties: your own fields on products, customers and orders
With Extra Properties you can add your own fields to core entities such as Product, Combination, Customer and Order. You create them under Advanced Parameters and decide where each field appears: in forms, in grids or in the Admin API.
Until now this was typically done with overrides or a custom module. For new requirements, Extra Properties is the cleaner option, because it does not touch core files.
Ask AI in the back-office
Ask AI is a conversational assistant in the back-office, powered by the PrestaShop MCP Server. You can ask questions about your store data and let it trigger actions; it asks for your approval before it acts. Ask AI is part of the Classic edition.
Klaviyo automation
The Classic edition now includes PrestaShop Automation with Klaviyo, which connects your store to Klaviyo for email and SMS campaigns and audience segmentation.
Symfony migration continues
More back-office pages have moved to the Symfony-based architecture: Countries, Merchandise Returns, Hook a module, Quick Access, Email body translations and Tax rules. These new pages sit behind feature flags under New & Experimental Features, so you can try them before they become the default.
Thumbnail fitment for image types
Every image type now has a fitment mode: Fit (the default), Crop or Bound. That gives you more control over how product images are cut to size, without editing image files by hand.
Hummingbird 2.1.2
Hummingbird, the default front-office theme since PrestaShop 9.1, ships in version 2.1.2. Notable changes:
- Checkout and orders: fixes in the address step, a
POSTform for guest order tracking and a new hook on each order product line. - Accessibility: accordion toggles on store pages are real buttons now, and reassurance icons are marked as decorative.
- Display: a new
manufacturer_product_pageimage type, clickable contact details, a sticky account sidebar and updated breadcrumbs. - Fixes: tax-excluded B2B prices now show the currency, and tax labels and rating display on product pages are corrected.
- For developers: building the theme from source now requires Node.js 24 and npm 11.
System requirements
PrestaShop 9.2 requires at least PHP 8.1 and supports up to PHP 8.5. Check with your host which PHP versions are available on your server; the full list of requirements is in the official PrestaShop documentation.
What it means for your store
- On PrestaShop 9.0 or 9.1? The step to 9.2 is relatively small. The main thing to check is whether your payment, carrier and other important modules are compatible, especially if you want to use the new one-page checkout.
- Using a checkout module? Compare it with the native one-page checkout. Switching can mean one less module to update, but test the full order flow first.
- Custom fields built with overrides? For new fields, Extra Properties is usually the better route. Existing customisations do not have to be rebuilt right away.
- Still on PrestaShop 1.7 or 8? Then 9.2 is not a simple update but a full upgrade, with a check of your theme, modules and custom code. Read our article PrestaShop 9: what is new and should you upgrade? for the bigger picture.
How to update to PrestaShop 9.2
Stores on PrestaShop 9.0.x or 9.1.x can update with the Update Assistant module; version 7.6.6 of that module fully supports 9.2. The update process is also more resilient than before, for example when the cache cannot be fully removed.
The PrestaShop team recommends, and we agree:
- Make a full backup of your files and database.
- Test the update on a staging copy of your store first.
- Check your modules and theme for compatibility with 9.2.
- Only then update your live store, at a quiet moment.
Did you test a beta or RC1 version of 9.2? Then the Update Assistant cannot take you to the final release; you need a fresh installation.
